King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard headline all three nights of their own festival in the Colorado Rockies this weekend, with 24 acts, a fan-run bootlegger alley and almost nowhere left to camp.
King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard will play six shows in North America this year. Three of them happen this weekend, in a meadow at 8,000 feet outside Buena Vista, Colorado. The other three come the following week at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens. That is the whole continent, the whole year.
Field of Vision II runs August 14 to 16 at Meadow Creek, about two hours southwest of Denver. It’s the second edition of a festival the Australian band built for themselves after the 2025 debut, which they turned into a nine-hour live album released through their official bootlegger series. Their own line about last year, posted on the festival site: there was “some magic in the air. Or maybe the creek water.”
One Band, Three Nights, Twenty-Four Acts
Most festivals hand the host band a headline slot. King Gizzard plays every day. Three marathon sets across three nights, which works out closer to a residency with a supporting bill attached to it. Guitarist Joey Walker brings his Bullant project and drummer Michael Cavanagh brings CAVS, so the band’s own side work is on the schedule too.
The rest of the bill refuses to sit in one lane. Jello Biafra returns after joining the band onstage last year for a Dead Kennedys cover. Zamrock veterans W.I.T.C.H. are on it, along with Denver death-metal outfit Blood Incantation, Québécois microtonal duo Angine de Poitrine, surf-rock band La Luz plus a solo set from Shana Cleveland, Austin punks Die Spitz, New Zealand psych duo Earth Tongue, Atlanta’s Upchuck, Melbourne’s Folk Bitch Trio, synth specialist Lisa Bella Donna, drag performer and climate organizer Pattie Gonia, and former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg running a drum clinic. There is also an Acid Yoga session. The full lineup, 24 acts and activities deep, was announced in April.
The Fans Have Their Own Economy, and the Band Licenses It
King Gizzard have spent years telling fans to record their shows and release them. Field of Vision extends that to commerce. The festival runs a bootlegger alley where fans register for a spot to sell their own gear, an arrangement most bands would hand to a lawyer instead. Tapers work from a designated section, the recordings hit fan archives within days, and the community site kglw.net catalogs every setlist the way Deadheads once traded cassettes.
That’s the part worth paying attention to. A band with this kind of demand deciding the audience should own the document of the show is rare, and it explains why a festival in a town of 3,000 people sells out its campgrounds nine months out.
What’s Left, and What It Costs
Weekend admission wristbands run $340 plus fees. Single-day passes are $115. Camping is where it gets thin: West, Center and Pinion campgrounds, group camping, the pre-set dome tents and both RV tiers were all listed as sold out at the time of writing. East Car Camping at $145 was still available, along with weekend parking at $85 and single-day parking at $30. Official shuttles run from Denver International Airport and Union Station at $79 each way.
Know Before You Go
- Cashless site: bring a card. Showers cost $10 each.
- Booze rules: no glass, no liquor. Campers over 21 get one case of canned beer, one case of hard seltzer, or one box of wine each.
- No fires at all. Small propane camp stoves are fine.
- No animals anywhere on site. They will turn you around at the gate.
- All ages: free for kids five and under, wristband required at six and up.
- Pack layers: the organizers say 80s in the daytime and 40s at night, with rain possible.
One thing the festival doesn’t address anywhere in its published rules: cannabis. The site spells out alcohol limits in detail and goes silent on everything else, so there’s no on-site policy to point readers to. Colorado law bars public consumption regardless of what any venue allows.
The band could have booked twenty cities and moved a lot more tickets. They picked one meadow, told everyone to come to them, and let the fans record it.
