A Meredith College poll of North Carolina voters conducted in early February found that a 71% majority of state voters support legalizing medical cannabis access. Just 23% of respondents opposed the reforms, the report said, while 6% were unsure about the issue.
Meredith pollsters also noted that a majority of every demographic group in the state — even those who identify as the most conservative residents — support legalizing medical cannabis access.
The survey polled 703 likely voters from February 3-10, 2025, with a confidence interval of +/- 3.75%.

The North Carolina Senate has passed medical cannabis reform proposals three times before — each time, the legislation was rejected by House lawmakers. This year’s effort, dubbed the North Carolina Compassionate Care Act, would allow doctors to prescribe medical cannabis to patients with qualifying physical and mental conditions.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians last September opened its cannabis retailer, the Great Smoky Cannabis Company, to all adult-use cannabis customers. The shop, located in the tribe’s Qualla Boundary region, is North Carolina’s first and only retail cannabis location.
