What Are Rebuildable Atomizers?

If you have been vaping for a while and feel like taking your vaping experience to the next level, you might want to explore the wonderful world of advanced vaping. One aspect of advanced vaping is building your own atomizer coils.

What Are Rebuildable Atomizers?

You can build an atomizer yourself using a platform called a rebuildable atomizer. You do this using heating wires and wicks. If you are currently using a tank system, the heating wires and wicks are installed and ready to use in coil heads. In your rebuildable atomizer, you will build a bigger version of what’s inside those coil heads. Then, once a coil becomes unusable after use, it’ll be removed from the rebuildable atomizer and you will build another coil. Why do this? There are 3 main reasons:

  1. Some e-liquids can ruin atomizer coils. If you buy pre-built coils and use them up quickly, the cost can rack up. Building your own coil can bring the costs down.
  2. You can build coils that are bigger than pre-built coils. Bigger clouds can be produced when you increase the coil’s surface area.
  3. It’s fun! Building coils can become a hobby for many vapers.

What Are The Types of Rebuildable Atomizers

There are 3 primary types of rebuildable atomizers. These are:

  • Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer (RDA)
  • Rebuilding Tank Atomizer (RTA)
  • Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer (RDTA)

Here are some more details:

Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer (RDA)

An RDA is a rebuildable atomizer that does not provide any e-liquid storage. The RDA is kept wet by e-liquid dripping through the mouthpiece from the bottle. Once the e-liquid has hit the wick, it is absorbed and stays in place. Something called a ‘drip well’ prevents leakages. This style of rebuildable atomizer allows for the more elaborate coil designs and creations. They also help to produce excellent vapour clouds. A downside is that the wick can dry out quickly and there is no e-liquid storage, so a bottle of e-liquid will need to be kept on hand.

Rebuildable Tank Atomizer (RTA)

An RTA brings together the storage capacity of a tank and the benefits listed above of an RDA. The RTA build platform is significantly larger than the coil head in a sub-ohm tank and consequently, RTAs can produce more vapour per puff than traditional tanks. There might be slightly restricted airflow because the coil is submerged within the e-liquid reservoir, but an advantage is that this e-liquid reservoir is substantial enough that you can vape for a while without refilling.

Rebuildable Dripping Tank Atomizer (RDTA)

An RDTA brings together the advantages of the RTA and RDA. The two main disadvantages of RTAs are poor airflow and small build platforms. An RDTA provides a solution to those issues by supplying you with a larger build platform that’s placed above the e-liquid reservoir and not inside of it. E-liquid from the reservoir is reached by some hanging wicks, and the e-liquid is absorbed up these wicks through some holes in to the RDTA build deck. This means excellent vapour production, a consistently wet wick (you won’t have to top up very often), and ample liquid storage. A downside is that with each puff, the wick needs to get wet again, so you may have to wait a few seconds before taking another puff.

What Are the Benefits of Rebuildable Atomizers?

Why create your own coil instead of using a prebuilt coil? Some of the benefits of rebuildable atomizers are:

More Vapour Production

One of the greatest influences on cloud production is the surface area size of the coil. You can achieve greater surface area when using a rebuildable atomizer.

Reduced Coil Replacement Cost

Pre-built atomizer coils can be costly. Especially when you are getting through them with some frequency. Building your own coil removes the add-on costs associated with buying a coil instore, as you only need the raw materials.

A Customised Experience

You might have felt dissatisfied by your pre-built coils in the past. Perhaps they didn’t perform in the way you wanted or the clouds were too small. Building your own allows you to take full control over this experience and play around with different creations to suit your preferences.

What Are the Disadvantages of Rebuildable Atomizers?

Safety First

If you do something like create an atomizer coil that would use a dangerously high current from the device battery, you could end up wrecking your device, or causing a fire hazard. At the very least, you could face a number of error codes and messages rendering your vape kit unusable. You should know how to test your coils before using them, and can use a resistance tester to do this.

Inconvenient

Building a coil from scratch takes significantly more time and energy than replacing the pre-made coil in a tank. This is only fun if you enjoy tinkering and creating new things. Otherwise, it is a hassle. Depending on your level of experience, this could take a few minutes or a few hours. Practice makes perfect.

Wire and Wick Types For Coil Building

Before you get started, it’s important to know what you can use for your wires and wicks when building your own coil.

Wire types:

Nickel

Kanthal

Titanium

Nichrome

Stainless Steel

Exotic Wires

Wick types

Rayon (frequently found in beauty supply stores)

Cotton (this is the most popular, and easiest to get – we have one you can buy here)

Silica

Hemp

Ceramic

Stainless Steel

One option is to get our Coil Master Kit. This kit offers much of the supplies you need to create your own coils.

If you feel ready to start using rebuildable atomizers, we can help you by giving you all the resources you need to get going.
